About the society

We are a friendly group of gardening enthusiasts from Leigh-on-Sea, Essex. In fact, founded in 1925, our society is one of the longest-running in the county. We hold four shows a year, as well as outings to places of interest (usually with a gardening theme), talks and seasonal events.

Membership is open to everyone and costs just £10 per year for an individual or £17.50 for a couple living at the same address. You will receive a copy of our Yearbook (containing details of all our shows and how to enter), four issues of our magazine 'The Link', and invitations to take part in social events throughout the year.

We are keen to encourage members to exhibit their garden produce at our four popular horticultural shows. As well as the horticultural classes, all shows include categories for arts and crafts, cookery, photography, floral arrangements and a special class for children.

Shows are held at Leigh Road Baptist Church, Marguerite Drive, Leigh-on-Sea, SS9 1NN. Staging is from 5.30pm to 7pm on the Friday before a show or 8am to 10am on the morning of a show. Judging takes place from 10am and doors open to the public at 2pm, with prizes awarded at 4pm.

We are affiliated to the Royal Horticultural Society, The Daffodil Society, The National Dahlia Society, the British Fuchsia Society, The National Vegetable Society, The National Chrysanthemum Society, The National Sweet Pea Society and the Rose Society UK.
