Tom Hart-Dyke - from the Amazon to Leigh-on-Sea

Tom Hart-Dyke visited the society to recount tales of how his expedition to the Amazon in search of orchids was the inspiration for his 'World Garden' at Lullingstone Castle, Kent. We heard about how his grandmother inspired Tom's love of gardening, as well as how he was captured by a drugs gang in the Colombian jungle and held prisoner for a year.

The hall was packed with members and guests, eager to hear the tales and garner some tips on how to care for their orchids (Tom's own favourite). All in all, it was a really interesting and enjoyable afternoon.
