Getting off the ground

The letter below appeared in the Chelmsford Chronicle in 1877. Mr F.W. Burt had to wait a few more years before his wish came true, but come true it did in the form of Leigh Horticultural Society, which has now been going strong for almost 100 years. I wonder what Mr Burt would think of us now?
